
Aino Konkka is a Lyric Mezzo-Soprano based in London. She trained as a singer at Lahti University of Applied Sciences, Finland, graduating with top grades in 2009. She continues her studies with Jenny Miller, and is currently enrolled at the Morley Opera School. She has recently returned from a tour of Provence, appearing as a soloist in Graham Field’s music theatre piece Paix à Peyresq along with The Young London Singers, conducted by David Owen Norris. Future plans include the role of Suora Zelatrice in Puccini's Suor Angelica for Morley Opera. She will be joining the chorus at Grange Park Opera for season 2010.
Most recently Aino sang the role of 3rd Lady in Magic Flute for Morley Opera. In spring 2009 she sang the title role in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas to critical acclaim at her university. In September 2008 she performed Haydn’s cantata Arianna a Naxos in a dramatized production Hell Hath No Fury, directed by Jenny Miller. Aino sang Valletto in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea for the Complete Singer Company, conducted by Lesley-Anne Sammons at Longborough Festival Opera in July 2008. Other roles include Maestra delle Novizie in Puccini’s Suor Angelica with Lahti Young Symphony Orchestra in March 2007, and Prince Orlofsky in The Bat with City Opera, London in July 2005. Staged scenes include Sesto in Clemenza di Tito, Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Mercedes in Carmen, Hänsel in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel and Ottavia in L'incoronazione di Poppea. Aino has performed as alto soloist in Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater. Recent song recitals include Falla’s Siete canciones and Ravel’s Chansons madécasses with a chamber ensemble. In 2004 Aino completed a Diploma in Performance Studies (Opera) at Birkbeck College, University of London. She has enjoyed teaching singing since 2005. Prior to her singing studies she worked as PA to the Director / Planning Co-ordinator at National Opera Studio, and has Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Translation Studies from University of Tampere, Finland.
